Some time ago, I wrote
about one of my favorites Animes: Berserk
(1997), but today I’m going to write about other; The Super Dimension Fortress Macross or just Macross (the original saga) of 1982.
I saw Macross when I was 15 years, but the first
time really, I don’t see Macross, I
see the North American counterpart, better known as Robotech: The Macross Saga. What is the difference between them?
For me, the mostly of
the history and the argument was an important point of change, as you will well
know, USA wants everything in their own way and Macross wasn’t the exception.
Harmony Gold bought the
rights of Macross to distributed them
in Occident, but in the process their censored, changed and make his own TV
show called Robotech, mixed three
animes had little to do between them (Only the draws and mechas): SDF: Macross + SDC: Southern Cross and Genesis
Climber Mospeada.
The principal change and
fatal error for me was the sense of history, in Robotech, the history was definitive
more focused in the Mechas, the action and the marked view of the bad group
(Zentraedis) and the good group (Humans) and the explication of ‘’Protoculture’’
like a tangible object who can be recollected like mineral in the Earth. OK OK
BUT IT’S TIME TO TALK ABOUT MACROSS
Ah, Macross, I saw it in the fully moment of
my teenage life and marked me forever, the history revolves around after a
accident of a alien warship who crash with the Earth in 1999 at the island of
south pacific, ten years later in 2009 the alien technology help to the
humanity to made important advances in the spacial sense, the new military planes
are called ‘’Valkyries’’ and they can
transform in 3 combat modes; Guardian, Plane and Robot, at the same time the
warship was remodeled and baptized with the name ‘’SDF-1 Macross’’, in the day
of his inauguration, the alien race Zentradi localized their lost warship, but
the new SDF-1 shootdown their space fleet.
The Zentradis come to attack
the Earth and in a desperate act the SDF-1 try to defend them, but the things
goes wrong and the spaceship Macross, the tripulants (Tourists and Military
from all places of the Earth) and the Island are teleported to the orbit of
Pluto, in the long journey to comeback to the Eart, the protagonists will try
to live their life’s, Hikaru like a pilot fighter, Minmay like a star singer and
Misa like a new command of the SDF-1, the problems become when a love triangle
bornof this at same time of constantly war with Zentradi race menace the
spaceship Macross and his return to home.
The anime touch topics
like teenage love, dreams, personal realization, culture shock, war, genders,
music and obviously robots.
I recommend so much but
if you don’t like old animes, you can see the movie who resume the original
saga called SDF Macross: Do You Remember Love? in youtube!
